Decorating Touches For The Holidays

It’s December 5th and Christmas is right around the corner. It is officially that time of the year where everyone is out to have the best house on the block. The competition is on!

For those of you that have had the pleasure of decorating for the holidays you already know how stressful it can be. Between choosing the perfect lights to making sure you have a theme or proper flow, there is so much to consider! And for my ‘first timers’ trust me, it is a lot more stressful than it seems…

That’s where I come in. Below you will find everything you need from do’s and don’ts, styling tips, recommendations and some friendly advice. So go grab your eggnog and prepare to take notes.

 DO’S & DON’TS

  • Do have fun! Decorating for the holidays shouldn’t be as stressful as we make it. Invite over some family/friends, bring out the eggnog and jam out to some cheerful holiday music!

  • Don’t go overboard! Despite what some might say, there is such a thing as “too much”

  • Do try to stick with a color scheme when it comes to your decoration. This will help to achieve that perfect, effortless “flow”

BE MINDFUL

  • It can be very easy to get carried away when it comes to Christmas lights. Remember, Santa won’t pay that coned bill once the holidays are over… Just sayin’

  • As bizarre as it sounds there are some that do not like or celebrate the holiday seasons. Keep your neighbors in mind and maybe pass on the musical lights.

SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE

  • Remember earlier when I said there is in fact such a thing as “too much”? I wasn’t kidding. Sometimes all you need is a few lights to work some magic.

  • There is no arguing that everyone has and is entitled to their own sense of style. That being said, sometimes it is best to stick to just a few simple colors. Some of my personal favorites are white and gold, blue and silver, and of course the classic red and green.

WHERE TO SHOP (ACCORDING TO YOUR BUDGET)

  • Shopping for decorations can very easily add up. Remember, the holiday season is only a few months out of the year so don’t go too crazy.

  • For my folks looking to get an extra bang for their buck check out places like Target, Marshall’s, Christmas Tree, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Amazon.

  • If you truly insist on going all out places like Pier 1, Nordstrom and Horchow have some of most beautiful decorations I have ever seen and of the best quality.

TOP 5 TIPS

  • Have fun!

  • Don’t go overboard.

  • Pick a color scheme!

  • Use what you’ve got.

  • Recycle and reuse your decor.

I hope that you’ve found this article helpful. Please feel free to leave your own tips/advice below! And remember, the Holidays are meant to be a time of joy. Try not to stress yourself out too much!
